Four terms
of Visual and Performing Arts are required for graduation.
A yearlong Visual or Performing Arts course and a one-trimester
heritage course in the opposite discipline are required.
EXAMPLE: Foundations in the Visual Arts
and Music History and Appreciation Theatre Arts or Broadway
Bound or Choir and Art History.
Students who complete a yearlong course in both
Visual Arts and Performing Arts may select either Art or
Music History to satisfy the heritage requirement.
Department courses are either one term or yearlong as indicated
in the course descriptions. Arts courses may be taken as
electives in all four years of high school and are recommended
for college bound students.

Instructors
Mrs. Chacon
has been in the teaching profession for 17 years.
She has been privileged to teach in elementary, middle,
high school and at California State University Sacramento.
Mrs. Chacon taught in Thailand for a year. She has
just finished her first year teaching at Loretto.
She earned her B.A. and credential in Art minoring in Physical
Education at San Diego State University and her Masters
at Loyola Marymount University in Counseling. Mrs.
Chacon is the mother of six wonderful children and spends
her free time with them, camping, swimming, bike riding
and more. She also loves to read and explore
new places.
Mr. Lien
has been involved in music nearly his entire life,
the last three of which have been spent at Loretto High
School. He holds bachelors and masters degrees in
music from UC Irvine, a masters degree in theology from
Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in historical
musicology from UC Davis. He enjoys using the gift
of music to support community organizations. Before
coming to Loretto, Mr. Lien founded and directed a community
chorus in Davis that presented benefit concerns for non-profit
organizations in Yolo County.
Ms. Romero has been
a credentialed teacher over 30 years, earning her degree
and credential from California State University, Sacramento.
She has been at Loretto the last 24 years. She is
also a working artist, much of what she creates represents
her diverse heritage which is founded in 12 generations
of California history. She believes what Mary Ward
espoused: "Women CAN do great things". Loretto
allows her the privilege of educating young women to that
reality.
