Welcome to the Office of Admission

A Lion-sized hello and welcome to the home of the awesome Loretto Lions!

Loretto is a small, Catholic, all-girls college-preparatory high school.  We stand out in myriad ways in academics, sports, traditions and student life.  But how do you decide if we are YOUR perfect match?

First of all, our size:  small at Loretto means a total student body of about 500 young women.  Small also means a very close-knit community where the teachers, students and other adults on campus interact on a frequent and very positive level.  Small at Loretto means everyone knows everyone.  Small also means greater opportunities to actively participate in many aspects of student life.

Next, being a Catholic school, we are grounded in the values and teachings of the Catholic Church.  Over 70% of our student body is Catholic but because we do not discriminate on the basis of religion, or in any other way, we embrace students from other Christian and non-Christian faith traditions, as well as students of no faith.  Being Catholic means we celebrate the holy days of our faith and focus on the spiritual growth of our students through liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and everyday expressions of faith. Theology classes are required in every year of study.  The Loretto service requirement means you will be involved in community service in every year.  In your senior year, you will actually complete 50 hours of community service.  We even have a summer service program where students travel to distant communities and immerse themselves in understanding poverty and people in need.

Being all-girls means a million wonderful things, but most of all, it means you are in an environment where your schoolmates cheer for you and want you to succeed in every area of your life.  It means you can raise your hand and ask any question without the fear of being ridiculed.  It means you can be smart and funny and serious and wise and never worry about what others think of you.  At Loretto, girls understand and appreciate the importance of our community of friends.

Our outstanding academic program:  if you are student who is serious about preparing herself for college life, Loretto is your perfect choice.  College prep at Loretto means you are surrounded by schoolmates who are all pursuing the same goal as you are:  being thoroughly prepared for college.  College prep means your teachers are dedicated to your success by holding high standards for your progress and by getting to know you on a personal level.  College prep means the classes at Loretto meet and even exceed the course requirements for the California university and state college systems and for private colleges around the nation. Our Expected Schoolwide Learning Results give a broad idea of the profile of a graduate of Loretto High School

Loretto students participate in 11 different sports programs throughout the year.  As members of the Capitol Athletic League we compete in waterpolo, tennis, golf, cross country, volleyball, basketball, swimming, diving, track, soccer, softball.  Our league standings and individual records are impressive.  And, if you are not a competitive athlete, our Spirit and Sport club supports our teams with sidelining cheering.

Loretto traditions are grounded in a history that spans 50 years in Sacramento and over 500 years around the world!  Our unique and special traditions include retreats, Frosh Unity Luncheons, Sophomore Ring ceremony, Junior-Senior Luncheon, Mother-Daughter Fashion Show, Father-Daughter Dance, Homecoming Week and much more!

Student life at Loretto means every aspect of your personal growth is nurtured and celebrated.  Our extensive clubs and Big Sisters programs help you meet and develop friendships with students in all the other grade levels.  Clubs and student government provide many opportunities for growing as a leader.  As a small school, we all have morning break and lunch together, giving further time to make friends across the grade levels.  Our unity with the other Catholic high schools keeps us connected with our friends throughout Sacramento.  As a student in art, choir, drama or dance you strengthen your performance skills through fun events like the Dance Concert, Fall Play and the Fine Arts Festival.  And, beyond all these are abundant opportunities for Christian Service.  Loretto places students in service projects all over the Sacramento region and beyond our California borders.

The mission and philosophy of Loretto High School honor the infinite worth of each and every young woman.  Loretto high school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of admission policies, educational policies or financial aid programs, or in any other way.

You can obtain a personal view of Loretto through campus tours, Open House and Shadow Days.  Contact Mrs. Perez, the Director of Admission with any further questions you may have at (916) 482-7793, extension 103 or aperez@loretto.net.
